Introduction

Python, created by Guido van Rossum and first released in 1991, is known for clean, readable syntax that reads almost like English. Python is interpreted (no separate compile step) and dynamically typed, which makes it an excellent language to start learning programming with.

Python is widely used for web development, data science, automation, and AI/machine learning.

💡 Key insight Python uses indentation (whitespace) instead of curly braces to define code blocks — this is enforced by the language, not just a style choice.

Syntax

syntax
# comments start with #
print("your code here")

Example

That's the entire program — Python doesn't require a main() function or any boilerplate to get started.

py
print("Hello, World!")
outputHello, World!

Try it yourself

Copy this example into the Python compiler and run it — try changing a value and see what happens.
